TK Grade 5 student Sid found a simple yet powerful way to apply his learning of the Unit of Inquiry (UOI) Sharing the Planet on his daily routine. Being an avid animal lover, he decided to reach out to animals in need and to provide them with a warm and welcoming home.

Sid has access to outdoor patio space, which he used to create an ideal place to help cats and birds in need of care! Sid provides a home to cats that have recently delivered a litter of kittens or that have become injured, by giving them food and shelter in his unit. In a recent case, he even managed to rescue two abandoned kittens by finding a nursing mother who fortunately accepted the two kittens as her own.

At one point, Sid took care of 13 cats at a time!

As the kittens in his care grow, Sid uses his resources to find suitable families to adopt them, and by partnering with the Cat Welfare Society, Sid is able to ensure these re-housed cats are sterilized and that the adoption process is a stress free as possible for the felines.

When not caring for cats and kittens, Sid also assists birds with broken wings by taking them to the vet and feeding them until they can fly again.

Sid’s parents are proud of him because he is a caring child at an early age. His devotion to helping disadvantaged animals and improving the environment he lives in is a wonderful example. Sid’s teachers at CIS also applaud his efforts to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Bravo Sid, keep on being a caring thinker in your daily life!
