On Monday, 18 January, the Secondary School hosted its first Diploma Program (DP) Expo.

Run for our current grade 10 students, the expo is an opportunity to learn about the different DP courses that are available. Choosing the courses that they will focus on for the next two years is an extremely important decision for each student. For some, it is a path that they have known for some time, for others, the decision of which classes would be the best fit for them was still clouded with uncertainty. The Expo provided a valuable opportunity for students to gather information and ask questions about each of the different DP course offerings before they needed to finalise their grade 11 selections.

DP Expo 2 - 1

Mr. Hall began the event with an overall picture of the types of pathways that were available in the DP and that students should customise their DP choices to meet their interests, strengths and needs. After group presentations from Ms. Baptista and Mr. Satny, students circulated amongst the various booths hosted by the current DP teachers. Students took the opportunity very seriously asking terrific questions and gathering critical information. Our teachers have said how impressed they were with the engagement of students throughout the event. From here, our counsellor Ms. Green will meet with each student and family to further discuss their course selections.

Students still have time to consider their options and make their final decision. Subject choices will not be finalised until later in Semester 2.

The 2016 Expo has been a success and we look forward to repeating it as part of our academic guidance process for next year's grade 10s.
