Students went head to head once again this week to show off their knowledge in the semi-final round of Game of Smarts, our highly competitive student trivia contest.

Working in teams of five to seven, each team came up with their own creative (and sometimes wordy) team names, such as The Jumping Amazing Super Optimistic Noodle Squad. The teams competed in a high-stakes qualifying round in the last week of February, and bonus points were awarded to the teams with the best names (E=mcHammer for grade 7/8, Brains of Casse-ta-mere for grades 9/10, and Quiztina Aguilera for grades 11/12).

The questions ranged from easier, common knowledge, to more challenging subject-specific topics, giving students with an edge in a particular subject area an opportunity to demonstrate their talent.

In the MYP, the winning teams were The Jumping Amazing Super Optimistic Noodle Squad from grade 7-8 and Brains of Casse-ta-mere from grade 9-10. The DP students proved to be the event’s most competitive group, having the largest number of participants and displaying the most enthusiasm at the chance to let their smarts show. In the end, the Winter Fellas managed to come back from a second round loss to sweep first place.

All winning teams received certificates as well as movie vouchers from Golden Village. A big thanks to the Student Council Academic Committee who spent many hours preparing and organising an extremely well-run event that was enjoyed by all of Secondary. Well done to all who participated and congratulations to this year’s winner of Game of Smarts.
