Exploring Boundless Horizons: CIS Cambodia Trip Adventure

Cambodia Excursion – Itinerary

As a member of the Cambodia Excursion, you will embark on a trip that will provide you with memories that will last a lifetime!

Day 1 - Meet at the airport at 1:45pm - MI608 - Silk Air Counter - Terminal 2

Transit – Phnom Penh - Head to the airport for your flight to Phnom Penh. Upon arrival, you will go directly to the hotel for check-in.

Harmony Hotel - check into your accommodations

Dinner as a group at the hotel or a restaurant near by.

Day 2

Tabitha Orientation - You will have a briefing in preparation for your house build with Tabitha. The Tabitha Foundation runs several programs including House Building.

S-21 - You will visit the former interrogation centre at Tuol Sleng, known as 'S-21', You will gain an insight into the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge, vital to understanding Cambodia as it is today.

Lunch – BKK - Street 51

PIO School Visit – A fantastic opportunity today to visit the children of a PIO school in Phnom Penh. PIO or ‘People Improvement Organization’ serves more than 1000 children a day through a range of programs. They give a brighter hope for a future for some of the most vulnerable women and children in Cambodia. You will be visiting the Stung Mean Chey School in Phnom Penh.

Day 3

Soccer Training HFCA – you will be participating in a training session and soccer ‘friendly’ with Happy Football Cambodia-Australia (HFCA). HFCA is a local soccer club that provides an opportunity for disadvantaged and homeless youth to be involved in amateur athletics. As part of their program, HFCA sends a team to the Homeless World Cup.

The Killing Fields - You will visit the 'Killing Fields' of Choeung Ek. You will gain an insight into the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge, vital to understanding Cambodia as it is today.

Day 4

Check out of hotel in Phnom Penh and transit to Kampong Thom

Stair Trek – Phnom Santuk

Its forested slopes adorned with Buddha images and a series of pagodas, Phnom Santuk is the most important holy mountain (207m) in this region and a hugely popular site of Buddhist pilgrimage. Santuk’s extraordinary ensemble of wats and stupas is set high above the surrounding countryside, which means there are lots of stairs to climb – 809, in fact.

Check-in–Hotel - Golden Chenla Hotel - Kampong Thom

Check-in to the hotel. Be sure to get plenty of sleep so that you are well rested and prepared for house building the following day.

Day 5

Tabitha House Build – Kampong Thom Province

A full day today; you’ll be helping to construct homes for families in need. The homes you’ll help provide will not only mean shelter, but also a much higher chance at an education for the children and ultimately, a brighter future.

Day 6

Transit to Siem Reap - check into hotel -

After checking into the hotel and settling in, we will proceed to the Angkor Archaeological Park to purchase our park passes. As the sun gets low in the sky, we will climb Phnom Bakheng for a 360 degree view of Angkor Wat and to watch the sunset.

Day 7

Angkor Discovery 30 km Cycling Tour

Escape the crowds, the busy roads and the well worn tourist trail at Angkor. Cycle the small tracks and minor roads to see a different side of the Angkor Temples. This is a guided bike tour of the most intriguing of the major temples. We visit Tha Prom, The Elephant Terrace and the Bayon as well as a couple of less visited ones along the way. We finish with a ride on small trails through the villages and back to town. This is a truly enjoyable ride on a good bike with a friendly Cambodian cycling guide.

The distance is approximately 30 km on mainly flat tracks and small roads. We will stop often for photos, temple exploration on foot and refreshments.

Note: Those not participating in cycling will have tour the Angkor Temples on foot.

Day 8

Morning Activity

To be decided by our service committee and student leaders of the trip.

Cooking Class

We will meet our cooking instructors and take to the kitchen to learn how to cook a few of the classic Khmer dishes.

Cambodian Circus

After dinner, it’s off to a hugely entertaining circus performance by Phare (a social enterprise providing free education to over 1200 students)

Day 9 - Transit – Singapore - MI 613 - Departure 10:40 a.m. Arrival 2:15 p.m.

Breakfast and then check out of the hotel before heading to the airport.
